If you were running 45MPH in 1st gear, you may have caused some mechanical interference or changed a valve adjustment. Back fire mayhave blown a gasket in the intake system and the choke being on enrichens it enough to overcome that air leak. Either you check it or have the shop that did the work check to see what happened. It is a thumper, not a screamer, That is a big piston to be changing direction on very quickly. 94 mm or 3.7" Bore and Stroke. almost 40 cuin or 1/8 of a Chevrolet 327 engine. They had a shorter stroke and larger bore. Keep on Thumping, Max
